2026 Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection
The 67th Annual Kinngait Studios Print Collection has arrived, and it is soaring. Birds of every kind take flight across this year’s images, with the all-seeing eye of the snowy owl appearing again and again. Laina Geetah makes a remarkable debut as both artist and printmaker with the pocket-sized linocut Upikjuaq Ijilu (Owl and Eye), while her hand-coloured stonecut Ijingi Qaymajuuk (Bright Eyes), printed by Qavavau Manumie, glows with golden-yellow eyes set against striking black silhouettes. Ashley Qavavau‘s Focus captures a snowy owl mid-dive, Ooloosie Saila‘s Spiritual Owl spirals with tendril-like feathers in shades of green, and Saimaiyu Akesuk‘s Love Doves and Plump Owls add a touch of charm and humour.
The Arctic’s great wanderers make a powerful showing as well. Ningiukulu Teevee‘s Guardian is a true standout, pairing a polar bear with a very “sassy owl” that has finally pushed its luck too far. Polar bears swim, roam and drift through dazzling landscapes, from the sunset scenes of Nicotye Samayualie and Padloo Samayualie to the turbulent waters of Ooloosie’s Ingirariniq (Strong Currents) and the celestial seas of Quvianaqtuk Pudlat‘s Plunging Bear. Quvianaqtuk’s stonecut and stencil of loons shimmering before a setting sun is a must-see.Â
