Angus Trudeau and Jim Logan: From Memory
November 27 – December 15, 2018Gallery Gevik is pleased to present an exhibition showcasing the visionary mixed media collages of Odawa artist Angus Trudeau and the darkly humanist slice of life paintings of contemporary artist Jim Logan.
A member of the Wiikwemkoong First Nation and life-long resident of Manitoulin Island, Odawa artist Angus Trudeau (1908-1984) drew inspiration from his early years working as a lumberjack and as a cook on the commercial ships that frequently crossed Lake Huron. This exhibition of historically important works comes almost entirely from the collection of Reynolds J. Mastin whose family owned a general store in the village of Manitowaning on Manitoulin Island that would become a hub for many local artists including Daphne Odjig and Blake Debassige.
Presentation at 2 pm on Saturday December 8 by multi-disciplinary artist and curator Barry Ace who will speak about Trudeau’s work and legacy. Ace is a band member of M’Chigeeng First Nation, Manitoulin Island and is an accomplished and award-winning writer and educator.
