Alashua Sharky (b. 1973) - Artist Biography
Alashua Sharky learned to carve by watching and helping his older brother, Toonoo Sharky. Many members of the Sharky family carve including his other brothers Napatchie Sharky and Kiliktee Kiliktee. Their parents both carved as well as their master carver grandfather Kuppapik Ragee. Alashua has lived his entire life in Cape Dorset. He enjoys carving with the local serpentine stone. Alashua often carves birds such as ravens, owls and falcon with impressive wings and fine details. He also enjoys exploring other subjects with his work, including dancing bears, drummers and transformation sculptures.
