Artist Specialization: Lyrical Abstraction - Cécile Buysse's work, predominantly oil on canvas and textile, evokes a spontaneous, playful, and sensuous world of colour. Oil is applied "alla prima" with a palette knife, in thick, sensual layers. The work is at once spontaneous and controlled, dotted with bursts of intense pigment. The artist refers to painting as "a pretext to make colours vibrate spontaneously. It was both abstract and playful; abstract because it was necessary, it came from inside of me, it answered, and still answers today, a strong need for liberty and pleasure."
