Eunice Henry - Artist Biography
Grand River Six Nation Onondaga artist Eunice Henry takes inspiration from her culture, family and children. Surrounded by accomplished carvers, Eunice is married to master sculptor Vince Bomberry and two of her four children, Cyril and Valene are also accomplished carvers, each belonging to the Deer Clan. This network of carvers helps Eunice nurture her artistic talents.
Eunice Henry’s work is strong in symbolism and her style is impressionistic. The imagery from her Iroquois heritage gives reference to the medicine and spiritual spheres but also the familial bond. Her impressions in stone are like those of Henry Moore; strong, powerful but encapsulating tenderness as well. At times her images shift and change while working the stone.
