Born 1970 - Artist Biography
Born in 1970 in Mexico, Gabriela Campos lives and works in Canada. While an apprentice, she studied with many masters across her native country, and, through invitation, with others abroad. She has had over 25 solo exhibitions in Mexico
and Canada, and numerous group shows in the US, Spain and Brazil.
Gabriela's chosen subject matter is the tree, the eternal symbol of birth, life, and death, which is often integrated with images of women.
Her watercolours, monoprints and etchings are thematic in their composition, and her conceptual arrangements portray an interpretative exploration of the human
condition.
Campos' artistic path has been one of experimentation in a variety of media, but it was during a decade-long period – while living and working in the artistic
community of Oaxaca, Mexico, between 1995 and 2004, in which she discovered her artistic voice.
