Ronald Boaks - Biography

Niagara artist Ronald Boaks was born in Newmarket, Ontario. He received his diploma in creative art at Sheridan College in 1975. In 2015 he moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake, where he opened his gallery, Ronald Boaks Collectibles. He works in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, and collage, but he is best known for his vivid expressive abstract paintings in which he aims to reflect beauty, balance, desire and humor.

Exhibitions and Collections:
Since his participation in the major survey exhibition Forum 76 at the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal , he has been exhibited throughout Canada and the United States at galleries including the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Art Gallery of Ontario and Lonsdale Gallery. His work is included in various private and public collections including the Bank of Montreal, Museum London, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Four Seasons Hotel (London, England).

Artist Statement:
"I want to create something with integrity in both form and idea, that has meaning to me and clearly goes beyond just a grouping of diverse pieces or images. Sometimes they are figures and sometimes they are allusions to something abstract that challenges the viewer’s imagination….I want viewers to relate to my work in a way that makes it personal to them. I want the viewer to feel joy. I believe that the success of any work of art lies in its being ‘alive now. -Ronald Boaks

Artist Specialization: Since 2015, Boaks has been working in painting, collage, sculpture and photography in order to create "balance, beauty, desire, humour and character" in his work. He sometimes will use “upcycled” found pieces and forge them with his own created pieces in his collage work. According to the artist, it is important that the found pieces do not show their previous use and that they play nicely with the other elements.
