Britton Francis (1947-2008) - Artist Biography

Born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1947, award-winning international artist BRITTON FRANCIS, SFCA studied at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary as well as the Institute de Allende in San Miguel, Mexico.

After depicting figures and landscapes for many years, the artist's interests focused on producing still life in a magical realist tradition, primarily in watercolour and egg tempera. The play of light and shadow in his ultra-realistic pieces is remarkable.

His painting "Forbidden Fruit" received an award in the 1988 "The Artist’s Magazine" International Still Life Competition in Cincinnati.

Francis’ work has been exhibited in the Frye Museum of Seattle, as well as other U.S. cities, Canada, England and Australia and has received top honours in the Northwest Watercolour Exhibition for three consecutive years.
